Dear colleagues, partners and everyone concerned!

russia-Ukraine war is in its 8th year with the hot phase lasting for almost 8 months already. Every day the russian federation – the terrorist state –carries out massive strikes on civilian, infrastructural and cultural objects, passing them off as military ones. The purpose of these strikes is to sow fear, destroy the cultural and genetic ties of our nation, and hinder the development of education and culture.

On October 10, 2022, the day of the largest massive missile strike on Kyiv and 14 other regions of Ukraine since February 24, the buildings of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv were also significantly damaged: the Main (Red) educational building (built in 1842), the (Yellow) building of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology (1852), the building of M. Maksymovych Scientific Library (1940) and partially the building of the Faculty of Chemistry (1905), which are located in the very center of the capital. All of them are historical monuments of national importance. Damaged greenhouses of the O. Fomin Botanical Garden, where located a unique collection of tropical and subtropical plants, which has the status of National Property of Ukraine.

The university, which has not terminated its activities for a single day since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, began restoration work immediately after the missile strike. We cannot allow the educational process to be terminated or interrupted because our country is in need of well-educated professionals who are willing to defend our people, rebuild and build a state that will take a decent place among the European nations.

The winter period is coming, therefore the primary task is to preserve the buildings not only as University buildings, but also as architectural monuments. We have a lot of work to do, for which we are ready. But it all needs significant financial investments.

Martial law and the relevant defense-related expenses do not allow us to rely only on the support from the state. Thus, we appeal to all our partners and all those concerned to support Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in this difficult time. You will be able to see the results of your support not only in the restored buildings, but also in the tangible success of our students and graduates at international competitions, Olympiads, in their career growth and dedicated work for the benefit of Ukraine.
